1. Introduction
2. Installation & Setup of ABC Bittorrent Client
3. Downloading with ABC

3. Downloading Torrents with ABC

1. After completing the setup you should end up with the ABC Client looking like this. Do not worry about all the buttons its not complicated in fact its entirely automatic. All you need to bother with is the Red X - Delete button which removes torrents from the client.

Click the "-" in the top right to minimise ABC you do not need it right now.

2. Open a browser, go to The Pirate Bay or Torrentspy Firefox is best and set up securely as per the Firefox Tutorial here You can use any browser but there will be popups etc with IE6 or 7. These are torrent search engines and between them you can find almost anything. I am using The Pirate Bay for the purposes of this tutorial use when it loads up click on the "Top 100" link as shown.

3. This screen gives you a choice by category of all the latest torrents, for this I am using the TV section to download an episode of The Sopranos that is already aired, not entirely legal strictly speaking but pretty much OK. Click on the "TV Shows" link in the Video Section.

4. OK this looks complicated. the files are named by episode and series, the things to look for are .avi or.Xvid as these will play in most common media players. The other thing to look for is the number of Seeders and Leechers. Seeders (SE) have complete files and are uploading, Leechers (LE) are downloading but only have part of the file which they are uploading. If there are hundreds of Leechers and only a few seeders it will take a long time to get the file so look for high numbers of seeders / leechers. The file I have selected has 760 Seeders and 380 Leechers so it will be pretty quick to download. Click on the link for the episode marked (or anything else you fancy) by searching Pirate Bay for Torrents. Keep in mind the seeder / leecher numbers and ratio when searching.

5. Clicking on the link to the torrent you want will give you this screen. The basic info about the file is here so you can ensure it is not in Swedish with Greek Subtitles or something, also if you scroll down the page you will find comments about the quality and any problems. Read them! any malware will be flagged, false files will be flagged etc. These comments are posted by users who have already downloaded the file. Some of them are "Don't Work" but these are generally because the user has no idea what he is doing, if there are a lot of problem comments then find another version.

When you are ready click the "Download This Torrent" Link.

6. Using Firefox or IE will give you the option to Save the torrent to disk or Open it with ABC. The actual file is a few Kbs, if you open it, ABC will start downloading it automatically, if you "Save" it then you have to Double Click the downloaded torrent file to get ABC to start downloading. I used "Open With" bittorrent default (which is ABC).

7. Once the torrent is opened ABC will download / upload the main file just like a P2P client but much faster and much safer. When the progress gets to 100% you can remove the torrent by clicking on it and selecting the Delete X in the toolbar. The file you downloaded will be in the ABC Torrent Download folder you set up in Settings.

8. Finally before you play or use the downloaded file Right Click on it and scan it with your Antivirus Client just in case.

9. If you have problems like very slow speeds or no speed at all its firewall related, also if the torrent does not change to Light Green in colour you have firewall problems. If you are usuiing a Router not an ADSL USB Broadband box then you need to do more complex tweaking. I suggest you e mail me wiith the type of router and I will send instructions on how to make it work with torrent files.
