How to use Tinypics (an online service for hosting pictures and video) to post photos and video on Why Not Guernsey.
The admin team would ask that all users share via a similar service in order to keep our costs down, Why Not Guernsey is not being operated as a commercial venture but to provide a service for the community. Please follow the tutorial which shows how to upload photos and video using Tinypics to host them. Explanations in non-geek are included in the how to where relevant, any problems please contact me.
This is how to upload and link a single photo, the same process applies for video. 1. Set up a Tinypics Account
First thing you need is an account, click http://tinypic.com/ to go to tinypic's homepage then click on the red "Join Now" button and fill in the form as per usual.
Tinypics will open an account so you can upload pictures and video to its servers. Once you have joined up and got the confirmation e mail log back into Tinypics with your email address and the password you chose.
You can upload without an account but thats your choice the process is the same, I could not see any major problems with having an account tbo.
2. Create an Album
This is just creating a folder to put your photo in, you can create as many as you wish. Click in the Create new Album area and follow the instructions - easy. You will see from the screenshot I created one for myself called Jonah.
3. Select a Photo to Upload
Click on the "Browse" button as shown above then navigate to the photo you wish to upload, click on it and then click "open". If you want to upload more than one file click on the "upload more" arrow on the right of the screen and repeat.
4. Upload
When you have selected your photo to upload don't hit upload instantly, first set the drop down box to your Album folder that you set up initially (as shown). Then click on the green "upload" button.
5. Link the Photo to WhyNotGuernsey
OK now you have the photo uploaded to Tinypics you need to post a link to the photo in WhyNotGuernsey. Tinypics make this easy under "Links to Share" there is a box titled "Code for Forums and Message Boards". Click in this box (it will turn blue) now right click > copy.
Then open your posting box (see below) and right click > paste.
The link you copied from tinypics that refers to your uploaded photo will now show up in your posting box, finish your post then click "Preview Post" and check it works then click "add reply" to post as normal.
6. Finally
Your photo will be shown in your post as usual except now you are using tinypics bandwidth to do it not ours, everybody wins.
